Syria: Enforced Disappearance of Three Members of the Bakkar Family Since 2011

On 18 May 2015, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced Disappearances (WGEID) regarding the case of three members of a same family – Abdul Aziz, Abdel Hakim and Mahmoud Bakkar – all disappeared since their respective arrests by members of the Syrian Army and the Security Forces between November and December 2011.

On 23 April 2015, Alkarama sent a communication to the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) concerning the case of Nazir Idris and Sabah Kabakibo, a married couple from the district of Khaldiyeh in Homs and parents of four children, who disappeared after their arrest at a checkpoint of the Air Force Intelligence by the Mediterranean coast over two years ago.

Syria: Alkarama Refers 3 Cases of Enforced Disappearance by al-Nusra and Kurdish Forces in Al Hasakah Governorate to UN Commission of Inquiry

On 31 March 2015 and 7 April 2015, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians referred to the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic (CoI Syria) the cases of three Syrian citizens abducted between July and October 2013 by the al-Nusra Front and the Kurdish forces in the Al Hasakah Governorate. Since 2012, the Al Hasakah Governorate – situated in the far north-east corner of Syria between the Turkish and Iraqi border – has been the scene of a battle between, amongst others, Bachar al-Assad's Army, the Islamic State, the al-Nusra Front and the Kurdish forces.
