During these protests in Yemen, the authorities, including governmental security and military forces, have used excessive force, including the use of live ammunition to try to disperse protesters.

On 6 May 2011, Alkarama submitted to Special Rapporteur on Extra-judicial, Summary

or Arbitrary Executions an urgent appeal regarding the additional extra-judicial executions of 79 individuals during protests in Yemen between 15 February and 4 May 2011 "relates to cities thought in Yemen – Aden, in southern Yemen, Ta'iz in central Yemen, and Sana'a, the capital".

Those individuals which have been reported to Alkarama as having been extra-judicially executed, via the excessive use of force of the Yemeni authorities, as of end April 2011. Some of them are minors and most of them have been killed when the security forces decided to open fire on peaceful demonstrators.

Alkarama has been already informed the above-named Rapporteur of the death of number of people previously persons: 20 individuals in our urgent appeal of 3 March 2011; 49 others in our urgent appeal of 23 March 2011; and we fear that further deaths may yet happen.

Alkarama urgently request the Yemeni Government stop killing of peaceful demonstrators in accordance with its international obligations, to take measures to prevent the recurrence of such acts as well as to take any steps that might be necessary in order to investigate all the incidents of violence, prosecute the alleged perpetrators, and impose appropriate sanctions.

The Human Rights Council should further ensure that the Yemeni authorities immediately cease all further human rights violations in the country.
