Saudi Arabia: Two Lebanese nationals disappeared since 3 years

Alkarama has submitted the case of two Lebanese who were disappeared from Saudia Arabia. Mohamad Hamoud and Bilal Abu Haikal were disappeared on separate occasions; the former in 2006 at Jeddah airport and the latter in 2009 at Riyadh airport.

On 28 January 2007, Alaa Ghazzaoui and Ahmed Rachid were returning to Lebanon from their pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca. While driving in a car with their friend Moheib al-Rachid, they were stopped by Saudi Intelligence services at a checkpoint near the Tabuk border crossing. According to sources, authorities presented a warrant for Moheib al-Rachid's arrest - however, they also took Mr. Ghazzaoui and Mr. Rachid into custody without presenting any legal document. Both have now been detained for over two years.

Saudi Arabia: Abdullah Zuhair, arbitrarily detained, opposition suspicion

On 20 February 2006, Mr. Abdullah Zuhair was arrested in Jeddah by agents of the intelligence services based on the grounds that he had had "contacts with members of the opposition". These charges only came after three years of detention. During his detention he was never informed of the reasons for his arrest or the legal proceedings against him.

On 7 June 2009, while crossing the Yemeni-Saudi border at Al-Tiwal, Mohamed Naji Rashed Al-Hamadani was arrested by Saudi Immigration Police (Rijal Al-Jawazat) and later detained by Saudi Intelligence at Jizan Prison. He is currently being detained arbitrarily Al-Qassim Prison in Saudi.
