Libya: Mr. Mjber Abdaslam, arbitrarily detained for over 10 months

Alkarama submitted today a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention asking it to intervene in the case of Mr. Mohamed Salem Mjber Abdaslam, arrested on 28 December 2007, disappeared for 8 months and detained arbitrarily.

Alkarama for Human Rights has just learned that the Libyan authorities have informed the family of Mr Abdaslam of his current detention at the Ain Zara prison near Tripoli. One parent was allowed to visit him one time in prison.

Libya: Release of Dr. Idriss Aboufaied for health reasons

Dr. Idriss Aboufaied, arrested on 17 February 2007 by the Libyan authorities, was released on the night of 8 to 9 October 2007 from Sabratha hospital on the outskirts of Tripoli, where he was hospitalized on 6 April 2008 as a result of gastric cancer from which he has suffered since his incarceration. According to sources close to the family, Dr. Idriss Aboufaied appears to have been allowed to travel abroad to receive medical treatment.

On 3 July 2008, Alkarama for Human Rights and TRIAL (Track Impunity Always) have jointly submitted an individual communication to the United Nations Human Rights Committee  regarding the case of Mr. Abdussalam Il-Khwildy, a victim of serious human rights violations by the Libyan authorities.

Alkarama wrote on 20 June 2008 to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention acommunication concerning Mr. Imed Al Chibani, who has benn arrested and detained without due process of law since 10 July 2007. An earlier communication was sent on 17 August 2007.
