Libya: Abdelatif al-Raqoubi released from Abu Slim prison

The Libyan Committee for Truth and Justice has informed Alkarama of Abdelatif al-Raqoubi's release from Abu Slim prison on 15 October 2009. The committee thanked Alkarama for its efforts on Mr al-Raqoubi's behalf, and championed the continued efforts of human rights defenders' work in Libya.

Alkarama submitted Abdelatif al-Raqoubi Salem Mohamed's case to the Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) on 12 July 2006 - later learning that he had finally been transferred to Abu Salim prison. Alkarama then informed the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) of his situation on 1 June 2007.

Abdelatif al-Raqoubi's release comes a few months after the release of Dr Aboussedra in June 2009 - who was also a victim of enforced disappearance since 1989.
