Egypt: Mr Magdi Marei beaten to death by police

The lifeless body of Mr Magdi Marei was thrown from a police car on 11 July 2009 near the village of Arimon in Al-Beheira Governorate, in the northwest of Egypt. Previous to this, several of his family members were brutalized and part of his brother's house was demolished.

Saudi Arabia: Dr Al-Rayyes in secret detention yet again

Dr. Al-Rayyes, an intellectual and reformist, was once again arbitrarily arrested on 25 May 2009 by the Saudi Intelligence Services (Amn Al-Mabahit Al-Dowla). He has been in solitary confinement at Al-Hayr prison (Riyadh) for three months.
