Egypt: Nasr Al-Sayed Nasr is disappeared in Banha following summons

On 26 April 2010, State Security Investigative (SSI) forces, under the command of Officer Samah Heikel, carried out a warrantless search of Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr's home in Banha. Although Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr was not there at the time of the incursion, his belongings were confiscated and the SSI agents informed his family that he was requested to report to SSI headquarters in Banha. On 28 April 2010, Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr reported to the SSI station in Banha and has since disappeared.

Alkarama sent an urgent appeal on 25 May 2010 to the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, asking for its urgent intervention on behalf of Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr with the Egyptian authorities in order he be put on trial or at least that information regarding his arrest be given to his family.

Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr is 52 and a father of five children, living in Banha.

Before reporting to SSI headquarters in Banha, Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr informed his lawyer of the summons. Following his arrest, both his family and his lawyer tried to obtain information regarding his disappearance; however SSI agents refused to confirm his arrest.

His lawyer then filed two complaints with the Attorney General, the first on 29 April 2010 and the second on 15 May 2010, there have subsequently been no replies.

Alkarama is steadily following Nasr Al-Sayed Hassan Nasr's case and exerting further pressure on the Egyptian government in order that he be reappeared and be put under the protection of the law.
