Alkarama expressed, in its communication to the United Nations, serious concern about these extra judicial killings and the arrest of hundreds of demonstrators who have been taken to unknown locations where they are at high risk of torture or killing, and where they remain without any judicial control. In this context of massive censorship of the media and press, with the internet blocked as well as many mobile phone networks all over Egypt, Alkarama fears that further violence could easily erupt without there being any way of reporting it to the world. Furthermore, there have been confirmed aggressions against journalists.

Alkarama condemns these violations and calls on the Egyptian government to respect its obligations under international law and treaties. We also ask that the authorities refrain from such violations and allow the people to express peacefully their pain and ambitions. Alkarama will continue to monitor the situation and send the information to the United Nations human rights mechanisms.
