Since the new year, Alkarama has continued to closely follow the arbitrary arrests and detentions carried out by the Egyptian Security forces. The most recent violation from Egypt is the arbitrary arrest of 10 individuals from Kafr Al-Sheikh. The General Investigative services with the help of the Central Security services arrested them in Kafr Al-Sheikh governorate on 2 February 2010. They are all accused of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Their names are as follows:

10. Khairi Al-Said

Alkarama fears that the detainees may be disappeared or might be subjected to torture, especially considering the reputation of the Egyptian Security services in the human rights community for such practices. This newest group of arrests represents 10 individuals amongst the thousands of detainees arbitrarily detained inside Egypt's prisons - a number which is now figures nearly as 20,000 - many of whom have been detained for more than 10 years without a trial or any formal accusation.

Alkarama submitted more than 600 cases from Egypt during 2009, including not only cases of arbitrary detention but enforced disappearances, torture and extrajudicial killings.
