They detained them at SSI headquarters in Bani Suef from 13 to 19 December 2009 where they were subject to all kinds of torture and mistreatment under the command of SSI officer Amro Al Mufti, known for his sadistic treatment of prisoners.
He stripped them naked, whipped them, and electrocuted them in sensitive parts of their bodies. He drowned them in cold water and forbid them food and water for days. These sessions of torture lasted 6 hours a day and aimed to extract confessions from the detainees which could be used against them.
Despite the complaints filed by the 5 individuals with the public prosecution following their release and their request for a medico-legal examination to confirm the allegations of their torture, the prosecution refused to grant this knowing that the traces of torture would disappear after a certain lapse of time.
