Yemen: Omar Al-Haddad and two sons, 9 and 14, arrested and abused

Omar Eid Namer Al-Haddad and his two sons Mustafa and Ashraf, 9 and 14 years-old respectively, were arrested at midnight at their home on 2 June 2010 by officers of the National Security services and later taken to an unknown destination. They are currently detained at the counterterrorism services' detention center. They were able to receive a family visit, who noticed that they had been mistreated and beaten.

Yemen: Ammar Attayiar's tortured in Ta'izz, held despite release orders

On 11 January 2010 plainclothes Yemeni security agents in Ta'izz arrested Ammar Attayiar and held him at their premises, before transferring him to the criminal investigation's detention center, where he was held incommunicado and severely tortured. He was intended to be released on bail on 4 April 2010, however he has been kept in prison in despite a court decision for his release. Current fears are that the confessions extracted under torture could be used as evidence during his upcoming trial in order to justify a heavy sentence.

Ibrahim Al-Nawar, Moad Al-Qadasi and Nawfal Al-Saffi have all been arrested by Political Security forces under the pretext of fight against terrorism, and have since been illegally detained for several months without trial.

Yemen: Zakaria Al-Hijri - two years, three prisons, still no legal proceedings

On 22 May 2008, officers from the Political Security services arrested Zakaria Al-Hijri at a checkpoint in the Sahoul district of Ibb. He spent his first two weeks in solitary confinement at the Political Security detention center in Ibb. During his first two months, he was held incommunicado at the detention center, and his family was kept in the dark as to his whereabouts and the reasons for his arrest.

Yemen: Walid Al-Kainai illegally detained since 2005

Walid Al-Kainai was arrested on 15 March 2005 in Ta'izz by local Political Security forces. In the last five years, he has been imprisoned in various locations and has never been on trial.
