Yemen: Cartoonist is Released while Fellow Journalist Remains in Detention

On 5 October 2010 the Yemeni Political Security Administrative authorities released cartoonist Kamal Yahya Sharaf, after the National Security services had forcibly disappeared him for over a month. He was imprisoned at Political Security headquarters for 13 days after a State Security judge ruled that he should be released.

Yemen : Release of Mr Sadman Hossain, after 6 months of secret detention

Mr Sadman Hossain was arrested on 14 February 2010 and disappeared for 6 months before being sent back to his country of origin, Bangladesh, on 12 August 2010. He testifies that in addition to being mistreated, he was detained secretly and in total isolation in an underground cell.

Yemen: Authorities Hold Hostage for Brothers' Crime

Ameen Hamoud Al-Hossaini was arrested at his office on 18 April 2010. Police officers later held him incommunicado for several days at Sana'a's Political Security prison before being transferred to Sana'a's Central prison.

Yemen: Abdel Al-Jaishi disappeared by Political Security forces since 13 December 2009

Abdelhamid Al-Jaishi, 20, was arrested by several plainclothes Political Security forces at his home on 13 December 2009 at 3pm, and later taken to unknown location. At the time of his arrest, he was never presented with a judicial warrant nor was he informed of the reasons for his arrest.

Yemen: Al-Haddad brothers, 9 and 14, released following detention by National Security

Mustafa and Ashraf Eid Namer Al-Haddad, 9 and 14 years-old respectively, were arrested along with their father on 2 June 2010 and later released on 9 June 2010.
