Syria: Three Yekiti party members held by State Security

Muhammad Ahmad Mustafa, Hasan Ibrahim Salih, and Maaruf Mulla Ahmad were arrested on 26 December 2009 following a summons by the State Security office in Qamishli. They have now been held incommunicado for more than five months.

On 23 August 2010, on his way back to Germany from Syrian with his wife and three of his children, Ismail Abdi, a human rights defender of both Syrian and German nationalities, was taken in for questioning at passport control desks by border police and State Security agents. He was immediately arrested and his family left in the dark.

Alkarama informed the Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances of Mr Abdi's case on 30 September 2010, requesting clarification of Mr Abdi's situation from the Syrian Authorities.

The Syrian authorities should release Ziad Ramadan, who the Syrian authorities falsely claim is detained so he can be interviewed by the international body investigating the assassination of Rafic Hariri, former prime minister of Lebanon, Alkarama, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said today.
