Libya: Student disappeared by Interior Security services
![]() |
Ahmed Almanafi, 18, is a first year student at the Benghazi Faculty of Medicine.
The Interior Security agents carried a violent arrest and did not present a warrant, while also refusing to inform his father why they were taking him. The family was subsequently never told where he was being taking.
Despite several attempts with the authorities over the past month, Ahmed Almanafi's parents have been unable to gather any information regarding the reasons for his arrest and place of his detention. The Interior Security services continue to deny his detention.
The victim's family is afraid that he will be subject to torture and ill-treatment during his ongoing secret detention.
On 21 October 2010, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the UN Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances urging Ahmed Almanafi to be freed or, at the very least, placed under the protection of the law.
