Alkarama strongly condemns the 24 April 2011 assassination attempt against Mr. Abdul Wahab Al-Humaiqani. Troops from the Republican Guard fired on shots on a peaceful gathering for the children of Al-Zahir, in Albaida province, after Al-Humaiqani tried dissuade the troops from attacking the neighboring province of Yafaa. The attack comes on the back of more than two months of systematic repression by the Yemeni authorities against political activists calling for the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his waning regime.
Hicham Gherras, a 43-year-old Moroccan national, was arrested by Political Security agents on 18 February 2011 in Sanaa. Despite promises that he would be freed, he is currently detained and subject to torture. Subsequently, he began a hunger strike on 10 April 2011 and has since been hospitalised.
15-year-old Muhayb Abdallah Husayn Al-Ya'uri was brutally beaten to death by security agents in Sanaa on Monday 28 March 2011. The tragedy has rocked Yemen, which is currently under a state of emergency, as protests calling for the ouster of President Ali Salih continue across the nation.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that security forces in a police vehicle came to Muhayb Abdallah Husayn Al-Ya'uri's home in the Shamila district, Sanaa. They were arresting him for his alleged role in previous day's "hand-to-hand fighting" with children from a neighbouring district. During the arrest, Muhayb escaped, however security forces tackled him to the ground and brutally beaten unconscious by with their rifle butts.

Yemeni authorities continue to repress popular protest seeking the ouster of President Ali Salih from office. Recent events have witnessed bloody attacks by security forces and pro-Salih supporters against peaceful demonstrators in many provinces across the country. Dozens were killed and many wounded.
