On 22 September 2016, Alkarama submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) its report on the situation of human rights in Tunisia in view of its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) planned for May 2017. Alkarama's report includes 16 recommendations to address to Tunisia at its next UPR in order to improve the respect for human rights in the country.

On 12 February 2016, Alkarama submitted its report to the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) as part of Tunisia's initial review to be held in Geneva on 7 and 8 March 2016. Despite major human rights advances since the 2011 revolution − such as the ratification of the International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) − these advancements may be compromised due to the return of some of the former regime's freedom-curbing practices in the name of the fight against terrorism.

On 25 November 2015, the United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) announced that it will visit in Tunisia and Mauritania in 2016. This procedure follows the two States' respective ratifications of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT) in June 2011 and January 2012.

During its ninth session that was held from 7-18 September 2015, the Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) adopted a list of 25 questions that will be discussed during the initial review of Tunisia by the Committee in March 2016. In particular, the Committee sought to remind Tunisia that no exceptional circumstances − including terrorism − can be invoked to justify enforced disappearance, as enshrined in the International Convention on the Protection of all Persons against Enforced Disappearances (ICPPED), binding on Tunisia by virtue of its ratification on 29 June 2011.

On 14 September 2015, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health (SR Health) and the Special Rapporteur on torture (SRT) regarding the case of Radhouane Gharsallaoui, who was arrested by the anti-terrorist brigade on 30 November 2014. Held incommunicado for several days, Gharsallaoui is currently detained in the civilian prison of Mornaguia, 15km west of Tunis, where his state of health has deteriorated considerably since he was denied medical treatment by the prison authorities a few months ago.

On 18 June 2015, Gabriela Knaul, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers (SRIJL), presented the main findings of her Tunisia visit report. The report aims to assess the Tunisian judicial systems and changes since the 2011 revolution. While the judicial system has made significant progress with regards to the independence of the judiciary and the establishment of an interim body that now replaces the Supreme Judicial Council, there are still significant challenges ahead. Gabriela Knaul visited Tunisia from November 27 to December 5 2014.

On 12 June 2015, Alkarama provided the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) – a body of 10 independent experts that monitors the implementation of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons against enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) by its State parties – with a list of 20 issues to be addressed to Tunisia in September 2015, following the State's ratification of the ICCPED on 29 June 2011. After this first step, Tunisia will have to submit its responses, for its initial review by the Committee in early 2016.
