On 25 November 2015, Alkarama wrote to several United Nations Special Procedures to encourage them to request a visit to Syria in order to raise the issues of enforced disappearance, torture and arbitrary detention. In particular, Alkarama wrote to the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances (WGEID), the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) and the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture (SRT) − all Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council − to engage directly with the competent authorities in Syria with a view to visiting to detention centres in the country.

In October 2012, Fadhil Othman, a 31-year-old concierge from Qamishli – a city in north-eastern Syria on the border with Turkey – disappeared from the national hospital where he was being treated after being shot by members of the Military Security at a checkpoint. Missing since, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians wrote to the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances (WGEID) on 26 November 2015, hoping it will lead to the clarification of his fate and whereabouts.

On 25 November 2011, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) regarding the case of 49-year-old retired policeman Khalid Zain, his 29-year-old son Mohammad Zain and another family member, 30-year-old Abdallah Zain. They all disappeared after their respective arrests between July 2011 and August 2012.

On 16 November 2015, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances (WGEID) regarding the case of 47-year-old Mohamad Hallak, who disappeared after his arrest by members of the Syrian Military Security Branch at a checkpoint close to the border with Lebanon in November 2014.

On 29 October 2015 Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) regarding the case of Ahmad Shamma, a 33-year-old self-employed professional who disappeared from Homs after his arrest by members of the Syrian army, the Military Intelligence Division and other members of the security forces.

On 14 October 2015, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Syria on the enforced disappearance of Abdul Majid Al Satam, a 29-year-old member of the group Trustees of Raqqa – an armed group fighting both the Assad armed forces and the Islamic State (IS) − who disappeared after his abduction by IS in August 2013.

On 6 October 2015, Alkarama and Human Rights Guardians sent a communication to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) regarding the case of 23-year-old Mahmoud Ali Deeb and 32-year-old Mohannad Al Kheir, who disappeared in the town of Al-Haffah in the Latakia Governorate between 2012 and 2013.
