Saudi Arabia: M. Walid Lamri, still arbitrarily detained for more than 14 months

Alkarama has forwarded to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention the latest information about Mr. Walid Lamri, defender of human rights and a member of Alkarama, arrested on 27 April 2007 and arbitrarily detained since this time. Imprisoned in solitary confinement for nine months, his family was finally able to visit him.

Alkarama sent on 7 June  2008, a reminder communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention regarding Dr Said b.Mubarek b.Zair. He has been held in incommunicado detention, since 6 June  2007 and Alkarama has requested the Working Group to intercede with the Saudi authorities.

On 6 June 2008, Alkarama and the Arab commission on human rights sent a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression and the Special Representative for Human Rights Defenders, asking them to intervene in the case of Dr. Al-Faleh, who was arrested on 19 May 2008.

Alkarama wrote a communication to the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders on 30 May 2008 to remind them of the situation of Mr. Saad bin Zair, arrested by the intelligence services on 10 April, 2007 and arbitrarily detained since this time. Saudi Arabia: Faisal Al Majed, arbitrarily detained after being deported from Kuwait

Alkarama wrote on May 24, 2008 a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention asking it to intervene in the case of Mr. Faisal Al Majed, arrested in Kuwait on September 30, 2007 and arbitrarily detained in Saudi Arabia since then. Faisal's brother,Tallal, was arrested in 2002 in Qatar and also handed over to Saudi authorities who have arbitrarily detained him for nearly six years.
