Yemen: Al-Haddad brothers, 9 and 14, released following detention by National Security

Mustafa and Ashraf Eid Namer Al-Haddad, 9 and 14 years-old respectively, were arrested along with their father on 2 June 2010 and later released on 9 June 2010.

Alkarama sent urgent appeals to the Special Rapporteur on Torture requesting his intervention with the Yemeni authorities. The two children were forcibly kidnapped, which in itself is considered a form of torture, while their father, Omar Eid Namer Al-Haddad was beaten during his detention.

Reminder

Omar Eid Al-Haddad Namer, 54 and a Palestinian refugee living in Sana'a, was arrested without a warrant by National Security officers at midnight on 2 June 2010 under the pretext that he was sought after by police officers from Oulaya, despite the fact that there a summons was never issued. The officers forcibly detained Mr Namer Eid Al-Haddad and his two children and took them to an unknown location. They were held at the counter-terrorism services' detention center.
Although the two children have been released, their father remains illegally detained. Alkarama will continue to monitor his case to ensure that he subject to the appropriate legal proceedings.
