Syria: Latest - Two disappearances at the Syrian-Lebanese border

Alkarama has received information concerning Faris Al-Turkawi and Mossab Bakkor, both Syrian citizens, who were disappeared this year at the Lebanese-Syrian border.  The Lebanese General Security Services extradited them to Syria where they were taken under the authority of the Syrian Intelligence Services. To date, their families remain unaware of their whereabouts.

Their personal information is as follows:

Faris Al-Turkawi, 22, student, was arrested in Lebanon during the events of Nahr Al-Bared in 2007 and was sentenced by a military court to two years imprisonment. According to our information, his disappearance occurred in January 2009.

Mossab Bakkor, 31, was arrested in May 2006 after a demonstration in Lebanon in front of the Danish embassy in reaction to the caricature of Prophet Muhammad published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in September 2005. According to our information, his disappearance occurred in June 2009.

Alkarama is monitoring these cases.
