Morocco: Alkarama presents its alternative report to the Committee against Torture

Alkarama submitted its alternative report to the Committee against Torture in preparation of the review of the Kingdom of Morocco by this UN body on 1 and 2 November. The report, called 'Morocco Faces New Challenges' was prepared in cooperation with our Moroccan civil society partners, notably the Mountada (Forum) Alkarama, based in Casablanca.

Alkarama will meet with the experts of the Committee on 31 October, just before the official review, to brief them on our key concerns.

The review of the State party is an opportunity for the Committee to have a dialogue on the measures needed to put an end to the use of torture, and other attacks on human dignity, as well as the dysfunctions of the justice system. In the context of its project to raise awareness of the work of UN human rights mechanisms within local civil society, Alkarama will film and webcast the review live, in order for public opinion to be informed of the questions raised during the review, and will also diffuse the Committee's concluding observations.
