Egypt: Widespread Security Abuses during Investigations of Alexandria Bombings

Alkarama Foundation (Geneva) and the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (Cairo) condemns the arbitrary arrests and other violations committed by Egyptian security forces following the bombings at the Two Saints Church in Alexandria earlier this month. The two organizations called on the Public Prosecutor to investigate these abuses, hold those responsible accountable and refer them to a speedy trial.

Egyptian security services arrested six senior Muslim Brotherhood members in Sharkiya governorate on 26 December 2010. Local human rights actors described the charges against them as "fabricated".

Ahmad Galal Zaki Al-Gamal, a 31 year-old accountant from Cairo, was arrested by State Security Intelligence (SSI) officers on 4 April 2008 and has since been in detention without charge. Alkarama's sources confirm that he was severely tortured while in SSI custody at their headquarters in Nasr City. Those responsible for the Nasr City premises are notorious for torturing detainees with total impunity.

Egypt: Military court adjourns workers trial
