Jordan: Labor activist, Muhamed Al-Sunaid in provisional detention

Alkarama has just received information regarding the arbitrary arrest of a Jordanian citizen, Mohamed Al-Sunaid, Chairman of the Daily Workers Association in the Public Sector. He was arrested by the Jordanian security services for his peaceful protest in defense of the rights of Jordanian workers and trade union members.

Jordan: Attack on citizen Said Mahmoud Talafaha

During the early hours of Monday 1 March 2010, criminal investigators and security personnel from Aydoun, Irbid governorate, raided Said Mahmoud Talafaha's home, where he lives with his wife and infant daughter. During the brutal raid, both him and his daughter were injured - the two are now in hospital.

Jordan: Four Jordanians arbitrarily arrested by the secret service

A reliable source has informed Alkarama that, on the night of 7 November 2009, Jordanian authorities arbitrarily detained Yousef Anwar Abu Sharby and Jamal al-Sarawi in al-Zaraqa province without presenting a warrant for their arrest - they were later taken to the Intelligence services' prison.

AlKarama has learned that Mr. Issam Al-Uteibi has been released on March 12, 2008. Arrested on Nov. 28, 2002, he was kept in detention without legal process and despite a judgement of acquittal on 27 December 2004. To protest against this situation, he started a hunger strike on February 4, 2008. The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, sought by AlKarama had issued an opinion in which he considered his detention as being arbitrary.
