What are the strengths of Alkarama?

As an organisation based in Geneva, Alkarama benefits from many advantages. First of all, as it is increasingly difficult to work on human rights in an Arab country, Alkarama's staff based in Geneva is able to work in a climate of security. Moreover, as an organisation founded by human rights defenders from various Arabic countries, Alkarama not only benefits from a vast knowledge of human rights issues is these countries, but also a vast network of contacts in all the Arabic countries that it covers, in particular within the victims' groups. Finally, being an organisation with strong ties with the Arab World also enables us to promote human rights values as universal values, in particular within groups who regarded them as "Western concepts", such as some Islamist or Leftist groups.
